Lost in the Memory Palace: Janet Cardiff and George Bures
Miller
would not have been possible without the support
and contribution of many individuals; we take this
opportunity to thank them.
First and foremost we are indebted to Janet Cardiff
and George Bures Miller for their willingness to take on
this exhibition and publication. We have had long and
fruitful exchanges with them for many years, and greatly
value their creativity, generosity and friendship. Their
expansive and ambitious practice and unrelenting schedule
are held in an exquisite balance that guarantees the success
of all. We are grateful for their willingness to take on this
project, which brings together outstanding older and
newer works, and documents them in a new and
challenging medium. Zev Tiefenbach manages the Cardiff
and Miller studio in Grindrod, and we thank him for his
critical role in the production of the exhibition and
publication. His insight, patience and persistence are
evident throughout.
The collaboration between the Vancouver Art
Gallery and the Art Gallery of Ontario has been essential to
the success of this project. Shared knowledge and resources
have enabled us to bring together an outstanding body of
work by these artists. We thank Kathleen S. Bartels,
Director, Vancouver Art Gallery; Matthew Teitelbaum,
Michael and Sonja Koerner Director, and CEO, Art Gallery
